A perfect day to ride ones Harley, blue skies and no wind. The venue was set at Cranberry Arms in Walkerville, the deep South of Johannesburg, for this Lunch run. Thirty five bikes left the dealership with Arthur setting the pace. Dennis and Dot were the Pack leaders with Vince the Prince Sweeping at the rear. Biker buddies on duty were Peter and Sir Henry.
The 75 km ride took us down South Road, into Bowling and up onto the M1 south. Traffic was unusually heavy for a Sunday and they had closed off the fast lane with cones, which gave the Marshals an open lane to pass the pack while traffic had bikes weaving in, out and around the slower cars. That's why we ride Harleys and do these things.....cause we can!
Arthur took the pack onto some road through Mondior and Brackendowns onto the R59 to Vereeniging. We then turned right and headed into Walkerville through a side door.
The buffet lunch was tasty with a good choice of veg, salad and pudding. They seemed to under-cater as some of the last people missed out on roast beef or turkey (not quite sure which one it was) The R55.00 advertised ended up at R59.00 although I felt it was worth every cent.
Arthur advised the long road back due to bad potholes in areas of the old Vereeniging road. Some of us took his advice, but others such as myself, took the short road back and man was he right. The road looked like a piece of Swiss cheese and one had to keep ones concentration high to avoid serious injury.
Until next time, ride safely and avoid the potholes! Easier said than done!!!
