LUNCH RUN TO THE THATCHERY
CONFERENCE VENUE, PUB AND RESTAURANT
7th March 2010
What a beautiful day it was to put on leathers and ride, ride, ride. And that’s exactly why 28 bikes arrived at the Dealership to attend the lunch run to The Thatchery at 26 Van Zyl Road, Steinsvlei.
After waking themselves up with Fanie’s great filter coffee and after the debriefing by Road Captain Iain Skinner (his last after 6 years in this position as he is stepping down and letting the younger bucks step up and take the lead), the group eagerly mounted up and headed out down South Road.
The route went straight to the Thatchery via the N1 north onto the N14 west at Centurion and then a right onto the Tarlton road and a right into the venue– all 76 kms of it. As they have been getting “lost” so frequently it must have been a unanimous decision by the Marshalls today to rather ride in a straight line to the venue. Mostly freeway riding but those who arrived at the venue did not seem to be at all phased….just happy to be back on their bikes again.
Werner’s lights decided to quit on him as he left the Dealership. So he had no indicators or headlights at all. We certainly hope that this is just a fuse problem and nothing too big or expensive to repair. Vince was a real Prince and on hearing of Werner’s plight, volunteered to follow him home after lunch in a Biker Buddy support role. Thank you very much Vince. This is what makes all the Biker Buddies so popular.

(Welcome back Peter – we really missed you Bro)
Sadly we were informed that today would be Iain Skinner’s last official ride as Road Captain. He has been Marshalling for over 10 years now and has unfortunately (for us) decided to resign. Well done Iain! You can be mighty proud of your achievement. Volunteering is not an easy task and as they say : You can please some of the bikers all of the time - and all of the bikers only some of the time. Well, you did an awesome job and we will miss you as Road Captain, but certainly hope to see you on some of the rides in future.
The venue was really rustic and the food looked great. Unfortunately due to monumental work commitments we could not stay for lunch, but are sure that those that were lucky enough to stay, enjoyed it enormously. R60,00 a plate and this included the live entertainment as well.
If you haven’t yet signed up for the Ysterperd…what are you waiting for? Guys, go and score brownie points with your missus and surprise her with this trip. Ysterperd is always such fun.
Well, until next week then…ride hard and ride safe.
Lyn
