Breakfast Run to Piza & Vino -
2 May 2010
A chill in the air with 75% cloud cover it was a possible 'should I risk a
ride on my Harley' morning. Well if you own a Harley you would know there is
no question about it. Admittedly many were still taking strain from 'Africa
Bike Week' in Margate so the numbers were a little down at 25 odd bikes.
Having planed the route, Eric (Frikkie) set the pace unbeknown to us he had
filled his tank at Lanseria Airport with Avgas in the Jet hanger, needless
to say we had to whip the Rossi out of him from time to time as the pack
began to lag behind like Schoemaker in his F1 Mercedes. Seriously though, a
nice 92km ride with open Highway and town riding, traffic lights (102) stop
streets (176) turns (360) and all this between Harley Johannesburg and
Melrose Arch. (3.5km as the crow flies) Really seriously now, that why we
ride on Sundays, because we can!!
We had four young ladies riding pillion from Vega Brand Communications
School who were doing research for a project on 'Defining the bond that
people have with a brand like Harley Davidson' After interviewing the likes
of Chris Reynolds, Frikkie and Jeff I have a feeling they are now more
confused than ever. In the photo wearing Harley gear from left to right,
Nicole Christos, Ilse Joubert, Siyanda Rudnansky and Rita Scholtz.
The venue, Piza & Vino was delightful. The service was good and the food and beverages were great. Thanks to Eric for doing a last minute rush around in
organizing the route and the venue.
Last but not least, thanks to Kevin Knight for leading the pack, Dean for
sweeping and R/C Danny's great Marshaling team (not quite as good as my
team) for getting us there safely.
So long until next Sunday, Ride safely.
