A legend embodies passion. A legend has depth, character and integrity. A legend is adored by many, worshipped by some, and respected by all.

A legend changes the way you live, inspires and frees you. A legend waits until the moment comes when you call upon it to shape your future. Until the moment you decide: LET'S RIDE!

Breakfast Run to Beyer’s Bungalow, Boksburg

Well done to Dennis D. for organizing an amazing route to the Jewel of the East (Boksburg !!!!) this morning….and also for arranging a waiver of the visa and tetanus injections normally required for this ride …(or so I am told)?   39 Bikes and 123 kms of mostly long, open country roads.  All that wild expanse is bound to touch and feed a biker’s wilderness deep down inside. Like wild horses we all felt we could gallop across the plains for ever.  This certain sense of freedom that smothers all concerns for a while, is like an ointment for our city wounds.  Such uncontained exhilaration at purring down those wonderful, open tarred roads before the full, but weak, autumn sun had had a chance to heat the tar and our leathers!  It just doesn’t get any better than this!  However, that said - it could get a little better if all the riders in the pack concentrate on checking their mirrors more regularly for the passing Marshalls in future.

The route went down South Road and into Marlboro Drive.  Onto the N3 South and off at Edenvale.  The pack then turned onto the Modderfontein Road and purred down to Essellen Park.  Still all as happy as “pigs-in-the-mud” we turned right onto Bapsfontein Road, rode straight on the R50 Delmas Road and onto the N12.  Then it was off at Atlas Road, into Commissioner Street and into St. Dominics.  A right into Kruger followed and a left into Railway Road and we had arrived at the venue - the quaint old Victorian “Beyer’s Bungalow” and half expected to be greeted by a friendly, hospitable old ghost.

The 21 hungry riders who took the trouble to sign the Breakfast Book before leaving the Dealership were so sure they would be served a hearty cooked buffet breakfast immediately on arrival.  Most were disappointed as those 10 who did not sign the book (but decided to stay anyway) joined the queue - and so the queue got longer and longer - until the bacon, mushrooms and onions, sausages and toast (as well as the freshly percolated coffee) ran out.  Lots of scrambled egg left.

Many disgruntled patrons left after a rather lengthy wait.  Big mistake.  The dishes were eventually replenished and the food was piping hot and really good when it did arrive.  Definitely worth the wait!  Bruce (the owner) and Wayne (our host) were trying really hard to please everyone, but were clearly becoming flustered.  After such a leisurely ride one has to ask the question “Why the hurry to feed your faces then?”

Note to all: If you intend to stay for breakfast at the venue then sign the book before you leave the dealership as the numbers of people who have stated they will stay for breakfast are then counted and this number is phoned through to the venue by the breakfast club. This is the number they cater for. If you later decide to stay and you did not sign the book - then please don’t be so vocal and unpleasant, and do not complain about the service, as it is you who have caused the problem.  We don’t want venues banning bikers because they perceive them to be rude and obnoxious!

For those of you going on the Lion Roar adventure - ride safe and have a blast.  Don’t forget to get your thermals out and join us on the next couple of Breakfast Runs.

So until next time - “Braaivleis, Rugby, Sunny Skies and….. Soccer (Ayoba)!

Lyn

PS:  the committee are always looking for new volunteers to join them on the Breakfast Club and Biker Buddy teams.  If you feel you can make a different in your Club and want to have a lot of fun doing so - please speak to Dennis Dalton and Chris Reynolds respectively.

PPS:  Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.
