BREAKFAST RUN TO THE BRAZEN HEAD ON WILLIAM NICOL DRIVE
SUNDAY 30TH MAY 2010
A crisp, cold and insanely clear Sunday morning greeted us as we walked out our “dew” painted, damp front doors eager for our weekly dose of biking adrenalin and adventure (and a hearty meal) on the popular Breakfast Run. The problem with a good square meal is that too many of them make you round.
Watching the temperatures plummet during the week before ensured that all thermal clothing and glove liners/inners were freshly laundered and ready for wear today.
Many riders had forgotten about the very ticklish runny, wet noses and bone-numb stiff fingers that are the side effects of riding in winter. I am sure many of you are hearing your mother’s voice inside your heads saying “winter is just around the corner, or “it’s going to rain today” - and I now know why - everything that can ache - aches in winter.
I seem to have my very own weather bureau inside my bones all waiting in screaming anticipation to give their separate weather reports and comments.
The ride today was out in the general direction of Irene and all along numerous country roads the majority of us have never ridden on before. 96 great kilometres of riding in pack formation but p-l-e-a-s-e folks, watch those mirrors of yours. The Marshals are still having to ride on the wrong side of the road because too many of you are not pulling over to the left for them to pass safely.
Pace Setter - Karl Tameris; Leader of the Pack - Mike Kiley and taking up the rear on his broom - err… steed - Eric Kaeflein as Sweep. Biker Buddies on duty today were Mike Ellis, Richard Bennet and Sir Henry. Thanks again to all the Marshals and Buddies for doing such a stout job as usual. Special thanks to the planners of the route for the free pothole training for everyone. Everyone passed with “flying” colours.
The buffet breakfast organized by the Brazen Head owners was really good, fast and efficient. The food was great and was continuously replenished….always appreciated by hungry bikers. No long laborious queues and rumbling, unhappy bellies.
Catch you all on the road next Sunday. Remember to wear your thermals.
Lyn
