30 January 2011 - The Pitt Stop, Auto Cradle Estate
Our breakfast ride on this gloriously warm summer’s day (surprise-surprise - no rain evident for a change folks) was to the Auto Cradle Estate Restaurant - The Pitt Stop - on the R563 in Skeerpoort. It is always a fantastic route out into the country and one that everybody enjoys immensely.
A buffet breakfast consisting of a selection of fruit juices, home baked rolls, scrambled eggs, lots of bacon, chicken livers, fried tomatoes, sauteed potatoes and tea and coffee was enjoyed by 25 bikers (...who actually signed the breakfast club book), but was in fact enjoyed by a further “estimated” 20 bikers (...who didn’t indicate that they would be staying on for the breakfast for R65.00 per person). We left after taking the photographs of everyone enjoying themselves, but were told that the breakfast was “ace” by many! Kudo’s to Auto Cradle Restaurant for filling all these extra tummies.
Buffet styled breakfasts definitely work the best for such a large hungry crowd. 51 bikes in total left the dealership. (Fanie left the pack and returned home just outside the Life Hospital in Cedar Road)! The route went through Bryanston, down Main and then into Witkoppen, then along Cedar Road all the way to the Lanseria Road T-Junction. Took the Monateng Road and went around three traffic circles (you know those lovely ones that are raised above the road by 4 bricks)? At the 3rd circle we took a right and then did a free pothole training course to the T-junction, compliments of Gauteng Provincial Roads Department. Rode along the R563 passed Greensleeves on the left and Swartkrans Go-Carting on the right. 62 glorious kms in total. There were two packs of riders - the main pack of about 49 and then a couple of kilometres behind - Jeff’s pack of two.
Huge thanks to Marshal Jeff for showing such patience with a nervous and new rider. Well done dude - you are now placed on a pedestal on top of your other pedestal. We all remember our very first “out” ride with fond memories and you certainly gave this lady rider a great impression of Johannesburg HOG Club and their big hearts.
Pacesetter : Chris
Leader of the Pack - Rick
Sweep - Jeff
Biker Buddies on Duty : Leandri, Terry, Andrew and Werner
Catch you all on the road next weekend.
Ride hard and ride safe.
Lyn
