A legend embodies passion. A legend has depth, character and integrity. A legend is adored by many, worshipped by some, and respected by all.

A legend changes the way you live, inspires and frees you. A legend waits until the moment comes when you call upon it to shape your future. Until the moment you decide: LET'S RIDE!

SPECIAL RIDE TO SOWETO
8th November 2009

With all the cooling thunderstorms we have been receiving recently the whole of the Highveld has “morphed into a lush green scene.  My lungs have obviously followed suit and I am once again back in bed for another week with regular visits to the clinic for much needed nebulizing and pure oxygen therapy.

To say I am “green” is an under-estimation.  And I am not only referring to my lungs here, I am also green with envy that everyone in the Club got to go out on their bikes again today for a lovely long ride to Soweto, experiencing the hospitality of the Soweto Eagles Club.  This club was founded in 1986 by a couple of young men who wanted to prove that motorcycling was not reserved just for the White men, but for everyone with a passion for biking.  Their club now has 8 lady riders and 55 members.

Approximately sixty keen biking enthusiasts with their pillions met at the Rivonia Dealership at 8h30 for a marshalled ride to the Apartheid Museum at Gold Reef City where they were treated to coffee, muffins and biscuits.  Here they were met by many riders from the Pretoria Chapter and a couple of Super Bikers from various other Biking Clubs.  A rough estimate of numbers revealed over 100 chromed steeds.

Led by a Metro Police Motorcycle escort the large pack sped off to visit various places of interest on the day’s agenda, including the FNB Stadium, Maponya Mall, Kliptown Freedom Charter, Hector Pietersen Memorial, Vilikaze Street – Mandela and Tutu House, and then a visit to hand over a donation to a needy charity before lunching at the Oppenheimer Towers.

After lunch the bikers were escorted out of Soweto (every 30minutes) by the hosts.  My photographer “hubby” took many great photos and it has been quite a mission to choose just a few for display on the website.  Unfortunately not all the photos can be displayed due to space constraints on our website.

A great day was enjoyed by all who attended and the weather wasn’t half bad either!  Unfortunately, due to road closures for the 94.7 cycle race next Sunday, no ride will take place.  However, we hope to see you all on Friday, 13th November at 19h00 for HOG Nite.   Oh Yes – and if you haven’t bought your tickets yet for the HOG Jhb Angels and Demons Year End Dinner at the Ferndale Recreation Centre, do so immediately as they are selling out fast.  This is one event you simply cannot afford to miss out on either.

And now it’s back to my sick bed and the Facebook word games for another week.
Ride safe and ride hard!
Lyn
