A legend embodies passion. A legend has depth, character and integrity. A legend is adored by many, worshipped by some, and respected by all.

A legend changes the way you live, inspires and frees you. A legend waits until the moment comes when you call upon it to shape your future. Until the moment you decide: LET'S RIDE!

FIRST BREAKFAST RUN OF 2010

BREAKFAST RUN TO SIR THOMAS CULLINAN
RESTAURANT & PUB IN CULLINAN
11th January 2010

It was with great anticipation and a wee dose of something more than mere mild excitement that I hauled my sloth-like body out of bed and onto my bike this morning.  I was strangely looking forward to seeing all your ugly faces in the Club again after a three week absence during the festive season. I certainly hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and are now suitably relaxed and ready to face the Harley Calendar of Events for 2010?  If this morning’s ride is a good indicator then we are in for a wonderful year of riding as everyone seemed to be full of enthusiasm and joeie de vivre for 2010.

    • Leader of the Pack – Frikkie (aka Eric K)
    • Pace Setter – Dennis D
    • Sweep – Eddie L
    • Biker Buddies who turned up for duty – Martin, Sir Henry and Lyn

The 36 eager “Breakfasters” rode down South Road into Marlboro Drive, then south onto the N3. The pack turned east at the Gillooly’s interchange and then onto the R24, then the R21 passed the O R Tambo international airport and onwards to the land north of the Jukskei. At Witfontein the pack turned onto the R25 and headed east towards Bapsfontein and then left onto the R515 and north towards our destination. A short distance after crossing over the N14 the pack found themselves being photographed by the local traffic department of Rayton (ooops) before speeding into Cullinan through beautiful tree-lined avenues and then the old brookie-lace adorned venue.

A short section of bad potholes on the R515 spiced things up in the pack and made the 108.7 km ride more adventurous, having to ride in single file for a while.  As far as the eye could see ahead the country road was dotted with Harleys riding in formation, a sight that always fills my heart with sheer joy.

Riding through vast fields of every colour green imaginable on the colour spectrum was fabulous, until you passed huge fields of silver green cabbages, and a couple of pig farms, that tainted the sweet smelling air with its pungent aromas.  No further adjectives needed here.  Then more fields of healthy dark and lime green mielies standing to attention like soldiers in camouflage, fallow areas dotted with purple/pink status and verbena like plants and patches of bright cosmos vying for attention amongst the tall weeds and lupins.  Places with names like Zonkolol went passed in a hazy blur.

This venue is a must for all you keen breakfasters out there.  We were served quickly and efficiently with filter coffees and small glasses of orange juice on arrival.

The buffet styled breakfast had the largest choice we have ever seen, and believe me, we have seen quite a few on the many weekends of breakfast runs last year.  There was a choice of creamy scrambled eggs, toast, butter and jams, grilled tomatoes, pan sautéed mushrooms, savoury mince, braised mini steaklets, baked fish and tomato, sautéed potatoes, streaky bacon rashers, cocktail beef sausages, and stuff I have already forgotten about, all this piping hot and for only R54.00 per person.

We were not charged for all the coffee refills either.  Great job finding this place Dennis and Dot!  So, if you have not already joined us for a Breakfast or Lunch Run, be sure to do so this year and spice up your life whilst earning mileage points towards your HOG Mileage Badges.  Go on – you know you want to!

Until next weekend then, ride hard and ride safe.
Lyn
