My goodness me – what a surprise on arriving at the dealership on this ominously grey and miserably depressive Sunday morning. 26 bikes in total waiting eagerly for the Marshalls to disclose their Breakfast Run Route! See, we are not fair-weather riders in this club! Even though the weather was looking r e a l l ydodgy and the weather reports had been all but inspiring, suggesting that we build Noah’s ark because of the 5 days of pending continuous heavy rains, 26 keen bikers still turned up to have fun with their fellow club members. Good on ya’ll! Spunk and spirit deluxe! Here are your Certificates…! It was really great to see all your friendly faces again.
The route was 78 kms and was mainly on the highways. This decision was taken because of the foul rainy conditions of the previous week making the potholes in Joburg a lot worse on most of the roads. Safety first and foremost on our Marshalls’ minds. The route went down South Road and onto the M1 north, taking the N1 towards Pretoria and then left onto the N14 towards Krugersdorp. The pack then turned left into Malibongwe and back towards Randburg and KyaSands. A right into Boundary Road and then another right into Juice Street, followed by a left into the 5 Star Junction. Biker Buddy Martin disappeared somewhere along the route and was never seen again. I think the spits and spats, and light drizzle, with the odd lightning strike, and pending wet leathers must have freaked him out. But folks – it didn’t rain! The only “damper” was that a few new riders were still not checking their mirrors frequently enough, and some helmets are still being worn which are banned in our Club (for safety reasons only)! Pisspot helmets and no leather attire are sure recipes for future disasters.
The pack eventually arrived at the venue a little later than anticipated because apparently they took two wrong turns along the route??? This accounted for the few extra km’s. The entrance into the shopping centre resembled a short ski ramp, so the pack rode around to the back of the shopping centre where there was another entrance….but they missed it, and had to turn around and re-negotiate the ski ramp. Reminded me of the advanced driving course on the ramp at Gerotech. All succeeded – whoop whoop! Apparently they got more wet whilst trying to negotiate the puddles in the back of the Business Park than they did on the entire ride on the freeways.
The generous English Breakfast was devoured hungrily by most of the bikers. A few others ordered from the menu and Fanie looked as if he was enjoying his special breakfast of Pork Belly and Pap! The bottomless filter coffee went down a treat with everyone. R45,00 was really good value and we will be venturing back there often for more yummy hot breakfasts in the future. You can count on that! Service was extremely pleasant and polite.
Until next week, ride hard and ride safe.
Lyn
