A legend embodies passion. A legend has depth, character and integrity. A legend is adored by many, worshipped by some, and respected by all.

A legend changes the way you live, inspires and frees you. A legend waits until the moment comes when you call upon it to shape your future. Until the moment you decide: LET'S RIDE!

Breakfast Run to The Pavilion at Gold Reef City Casino
14 March 2010

This is becoming a little bit repetitive, but once again it was another beautiful highveld morning which afforded us the opportunity of once again donning our leathers, climbing on our shiny metal and chrome steeds to ride and live our dream.

Yes - okay - I hear the scream - “you were not there!!!” Well yes I was (in spirit) but physically I was on a marshalling course with Elma for the Journey of Hope trip later this year - so I was out riding.

Hooray for Eddie (once again proving that he is an innovative road captain) he marshaled the pack on the far side of Rivonia Road, facing southwards instead of the usual northwards and - wait for it - the pack did not head down South Road - nosiree - the pack headed down Grayston Drive and onto the M1 south - whoop whoop!! But then things went a little awry with Eddie noticing for the first time (despite having done a recce of the route this week) that the M2 east split has a traffic sign restricting access to motorcycles! He took a split second decision and decided to turn onto the M2 leaving the pack behind him to take dramatic action in trying to keep up with him.

Some miraculous maneuvers later (I was told by a reliable source) left the pack intact and heading east down the M2.  Kudos to Eric K who instinctively stopped at the split and directed the pack eastwards. It’s a good thing he saw his dentist on Friday or else he might have lost a few loose fillings on the rumble strips of the centre median. The pack then did their “eco” thing and rode the back roads around Suikerbosrand Nature reserve before heading back into the city and the Gold Reef City Casino venue.

Eddie was Pacesetter, Vince was Leader of the Pack, and Paul was sweep as they led the pack of 29 bikes along this eventful and beautiful route of 93 km.  Biker Buddies who jumped in to help today were Dennis D and Mike E.  Sincere thanks to all the Marshalls and the Biker Buddies for your invaluable services again today.   You guys rock!

The riders were then ushered through the casino and into the reserved area at the Pavilion Restaurant, which is situated in the centre of the casino floor. The photographer was then warned in a very stern manner by the grumpy casino staff not to take photos aimed at the casino floor (even though it was only in the background), as apparently we cannot invade the privacy of the “punters”. He daringly defied the warning and took a few more photos of the group and then had to swiftly evade the clutches of the casino guards as they tried to evict him from the premises, and confiscate his beloved camera.  You might have noticed that he did not join you guys for breakfast? The poor guy (now really stressed) was busy running through the car park…..to avoid spending an unpleasant night in the Brixton cells with Baba.  He managed to find his way home and related the above story to me (while I was hysterical with laughter) and barely able to type this report.  Thanks my “loyal and conscientious” hubby.

So until next week, ride hard and ride safe.
Lyn
PS:  A beautiful message about growing old - Oh Crap.  I forgot what it was!
