Sunday 22nd August ’10
The Wild Rocket Café, Fourways
41 bikes and 94.3 km's of riding under clear blue skies and perfect weather conditions. What more could you ask for?
- Pacesetter : Garth
- Leader of the Pack : Mike
- Sweep : Dean
- Biker Buddies on duty : Richard and Herman
To all the marshals - a big thank you guys for another job well done.
The route went down South Road, onto the M1 south, then onto Main Reef, through Roodepoort, Krugersdorp Highway, N4, in the direction of Lanseria, into Cedar and then a left into William Nicol and to the venue. A long sandy entrance made a few bikers wonder if white was the correct choice of colour for their under-rods today.
We all need to congratulate Mike Ellis for ascending to within 500 metres of majestic Kilimanjaro's summit. Well done Mike. Your spirit of adventure is truly inspiring.
Breakfast could be ordered off the menu ranging from a Plain Jane / Boer se Vrou at R21.00 to the Big Boy’s Breakfast / Boer se Ontbyt at R48.00.
I think the staff at the venue were a little bit overwhelmed with all these hungry leather clad and chain wielding bikers descending hungrily into their other-wise "quiet and what used to be tranquil" spot in the country. We really do need to compliment their service though - Geoff and I were served our breakfasts before we had even ordered. But that's another story entirely.
Kudo's to Jana (of Sevende Laan fame) and her partners, Wynand and Marie, for really taking an interest in all these leather clad HOGS and trying to fulfill their breakfast orders timeously and efficiently. As efficiently as she possibly could - with a very cute little sleeping bambino tied in a large cumbersome sling across her chest and both hands multi-tasking various plates of breakfast to numerous tables.
Well done Jana. Al Clegg seemed to just appear at people's tables silently, like an apparition - and earned himself the nickname - Bike Whisperer, extracting information from people without them even knowing they had said anything.
I am looking forward to next week's breakfast run - wherever it will be.
Until next week then. Ride safe and ride hard and please keep checking your mirrors.
Lyn
PS: I am young at heart. A little older in other places!
